Logistics and Supply Chain management contributes around 13% to the country's GDP it is an approximately Rs.600 billion industry, which is likely to grow at a CAGR of 7% during the next five years. In the last few years, this sector has achieved tremendous growth. Even in the IT Sector, more supply-chain domain experts are being recruited as consultancy opportunities in this domain is likely to contribute more towards the bottom line. Such a phenomenal growth is expected to provide more employment at all levels in logistics and supply-chain management area.

CII has been playing a pioneering role in facilitating the adoption of logistics and supply chain management practices in the Indian industry and in developing the logistics industry in India. Towards this goal, CII has established the specialized Institute of Logistics at Chennai - as a center of excellence in logistics and supply chain management in the country.

One of the objectives of CIL is to enhance the competitiveness of the Indian industry and increase the number of trained manpower in logistics & supply chain professionals.

With the growing competition in Indian market after liberalization and globalization, considerable thought is being given to devise new market strategies to accelerate demand-inducing activities, one of which is to ensure efficient movement of goods from the point of value addition to the goods produced to that of their delivery to the ultimate consumer.

Distribution Management being part of logistics, is concerned with management of physical movement of goods from the factory to the consumer through different distribution channels, involving transportation, warehousing, inventory, unitisation and information system, order processing and documentation.

Towards this, we have embarked on an innovative 5-day Certificate programme in logistics & Distribution management exclusively for college students, so that this will be a value addition for them and make them more employable, have a competitive advantage and be industry-ready in the exploding market for logistics and supply-chain management.

We have successfully conducted this programme in several colleges and the students have found it to be highly beneficial. Hence, we are planning to extend it to more number of colleges for the benefit of the student community.
